The 2016 inaugural Event attracted 115 entries from nine countries across four continents, with top level riders such as Rio 2016 Olympics Gold Medalist (team) and Silver Medalist (individual) Astier Nicolas from France, as well as other Olympians Boyd Martin, Clayton Fredericks, Leslie Law, Lynn Symansky and other elite eventers. When asked in an interview by Eventing Nation about OJC, Astier Nicolas replied, "This is a great venue; I am amazed. I came here during November from Europe, so it's great to be here in the USA with the sunshine. There's a lot of room here and there's some great galloping courses. The event looks like a success. I hear everyone praising it."
Acclaimed Olympic cross-country designer Mike Etherington-Smith is back to design the CIC3* course for the 2017 Event. Clayton Fredericks is also back to design the CCI1* and CCI2* courses. The cross-country builder/artist Tyson Rementer and his crew will be back to build the courses. All three courses received rave reviews in 2016 for the traditional galloping courses reminiscent of the English rolling hill countryside. The courses were described as tough and fair, with technically challenging questions such as the water cascade CIC3* jump by the clubhouse pond.
